In a midday ceremony in Dallas on Monday, October 21, Shelby Woods and Wayne Woods, chairman emeritus and chief executive officer respectively of Cranford Johnson Robinson Woods, were inducted into the Tenth District of the American Advertising Federation’s Southwest Advertising Hall of Fame.
The Woods brothers join Wayne Cranford, also chairman emeritus of CJRW, as the only Arkansas inductees in the AAF Tenth District’s Advertising Hall of Fame (Cranford was inducted in 2008). The ceremony was held at the Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas.
“All of us at the agency are extremely pleased that Shelby and Wayne are being honored in this way,” said Cranford. “Their contributions to Arkansas, especially with respect to tourism, are legendary. They have been driving forces behind building that industry which is so important to the state and which generates billions of dollars year after year.”
The Southwest Advertising Hall of Fame was created by the Tenth District of the American Advertising Federation to honor those from the region who have distinguished themselves by making significant contributions to the advertising industry and their community. The Tenth District includes Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Shelby Woods founded the Woods Brothers Agency in 1967, to focus on promoting and positioning Arkansas as a premier tourism destination. His brother Wayne joined the firm in 1971. They helped organize the state into regional tourism associations which pool resources, coordinate messaging, and cross promote attractions and tourism in their respective areas. Today, Arkansas plays host to more than 20 million visitors annually. In 2012, tourism contributed nearly $6 billion to the state’s economy.
“This honor is as much about our clients and our agency team as it is about Wayne and me,” said Shelby Woods. “We could not achieve what we do without the opportunities clients provide, and the excellence and professionalism of our colleagues. They have always been simply the best,” Woods said.
Shelby has served as chairman of the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Wayne and Shelby have been named as “Advertising Men of the Year” by the Little Rock Advertising Federation. Shelby has also been honored with the Federation’s Silver Cup in recognition of outstanding service to the industry and responsibility in areas of social concern. Both Wayne and Shelby have served as members of numerous community, business, and non-profit service organizations.
In 1990, the Woods Brothers Agency merged with Cranford Johnson Robinson Woods to create the state’s largest full service marketing, advertising and public relations agency. Earlier this year, Adweek magazine named CJRW Arkansas’ “Top Shop” in its rankings of leading agencies across the nation.
“Without a doubt, the Woods brothers and Wayne Cranford have set a high standard of excellence for our industry and civic leadership,” said Randy Kemp, co-chair of the Southwest Advertising Hall of Fame. We are delighted to recognize them with this honor for their years of hard work. It is well-deserved.”
