Across the country last Friday, people gathered to celebrate. And while the Fourth was still a few days out, Friday was the perfect day to celebrate our enthusiastic dependence on social media. We are referring, of course, to National Social Media Day, and CJRW rolled out the red carpet to honor the king of the hashtag holidays with a whole day of events and free swag. The event was Memes On Main, and despite the rain, it was a totally sharable success, thanks in large part to a very motivated class of interns.
The day began in the best possible way, with a donut wall and free coffee! CJRW opened its doors to the public, offering not just free calories and caffeine but a meme-inspired photo booth and even sketched portraits courtesy of Lyuba Bogan, our amazing resident artist. Despite the rain, we had an excellent turnout and a superb donut selection with plenty to spare. After a strong start, and through the hard work of a legion of dedicated interns, Memes on Main moved down the street and was set up in the new Little Rock Technology Park.
Memes on Main continued at 11:00 a.m. with a workshop held on the top floor of the newly completed Little Rock Technology Park. The workshop, entitled Building Your Social Media Fandom: Earn Your Engagement Badge, played to a full house. Led by experts from CJRW, Sprout Social, the Downtown Little Rock Partnership and the Girl Scouts Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas, the workshop was part panel discussion, part competition. While learning to promote brands through social media, attendees competed for the best pitch.
The goal of the workshop was to teach local business leaders, entrepreneurs and others how to understand social media audiences, choose social platforms, and utilize best practices and emerging trends to develop a strong social strategy. Attendees worked in teams to create a social strategy for the Girl Scouts Diamonds of Arkansas. Each team had only a little time to put together a sound strategy and deliver a short pitch. Prizes for winners included gift certificates to Samantha’s and Blue Sail, as well as a free CJRW consultation.
Emerging from the Little Rock Technology Park after a very successful workshop and pitch competition, the crowd moved outside to enjoy another Main St. tradition: Food Truck Friday! And so, after all the fun and hard work, the big event ended much as it began, with great food, terrific conversation and the constant threat of rain. But despite the elements, Memes On Main was a tremendous success for everyone involved and will definitely be back. Thanks to everyone who participated. We’ll see you next June 30 for Social Media Day 2018!
